Customer-supplied water heaters may not qualify for our full workmanship warranty. If the unit fails due to a manufacturer defect or part issue, the homeowner is responsible for the product warranty, replacement unit, non-reusable parts, and any additional labor needed to remove and reinstall it. Water heaters supplied and installed by Shanks Onsite Services are covered under our workmanship warranty.

What can affect price?

Several things can affect the final cost of a water heater replacement, including the tank size, fuel type, location of the unit, whether code updates are needed, the condition of the shutoff valve and supply lines, expansion tank requirements, venting, drain pan setup, and how difficult the old unit is to remove.

We can install customer-supplied water heaters

Already purchased a water heater? We can often install customer-supplied water heaters as long as the unit is the correct size, fuel type, and fit for your home. However, customer-supplied water heaters are not covered under our full workmanship warranty in the same way as water heaters supplied by Shanks Onsite Services.

If a customer-supplied water heater fails or has a manufacturer defect, the homeowner is responsible for handling the product warranty with the store or manufacturer. Any labor required to remove the failed unit, reinstall a replacement, replace parts that cannot be reused, or return for future issues related to the customer-supplied unit would be billed separately.

When Shanks Onsite Services supplies and installs the water heater, the installation is covered under our workmanship warranty, and we can help make sure the proper unit, parts, and setup are used from the start.
