Changing a faucet, toilet, disposal, shower head, supply line, or appliance connection may seem simple, but small plumbing issues can become bigger problems if something does not seal correctly.
Before starting a DIY plumbing project, it is important to know what you are working with and how to stop the water if something goes wrong.
Before You Start
Before replacing a fixture, check:
• Where the shutoff valve is
• Whether the shutoff valve works
• Whether the existing supply lines are in good condition
• Whether the new fixture is compatible
• Whether the old parts are corroded or stuck
• Whether you have the right connections
• Whether there is already moisture, staining, or damage nearby
If the shutoff valve does not work, the project can become more complicated quickly.
Common DIY Fixture Issues
Problems can happen when:
• A connection is overtightened
• Threads are damaged
• A washer or gasket is missing
• A supply line is kinked
• A shutoff valve starts leaking
• A fitting is the wrong size
• A toilet seal is not seated correctly
• A disposal or dishwasher drain connection is not installed properly
• A faucet connection leaks under the sink
A small drip under a cabinet can cause damage if it is missed.
We may install customer-supplied fixtures depending on the product, condition, compatibility, and plumbing setup.
Please keep in mind that we can only warranty our labor, not the product itself if it was supplied by the customer.
If possible, send a photo or link to the fixture before scheduling.
It may be better to call a plumber if:
• A valve will not shut off
• A valve starts leaking
• Pipes move when you try to disconnect something
• Parts are corroded or stuck
• The new fixture does not match the existing setup
• Water continues dripping after installation
• You are unsure about the connection
• The project involves a toilet seal, disposal, dishwasher, or water line connection
